HEMHealing®
AN Oxygenating Hydrogel
Currently under development, HEMHealing® is an Oxygenating Hydrogel presented in the form of a ready-to-use syringe.
This product contains an erythrocruorin of animal origin (M101, extracellular hemoglobin extracted from the marine invertebrate Arenicola marina) whose main function is to fix oxygen from the air, then release it directly at the wound level according to a partial pressure gradient in oxygen (O2). This hydrogel is applied directly to the wound, after debridement in accordance with standard care protocol. It is used in combination with a non-occlusive dressing, allowing passive diffusion of oxygen.
HEMHealing® thus allows oxygenation of the wound while maintaining a humid environment, thus creating optimal conditions which promote the granulation phase, an essential stage of the healing process.
The mechanism of action of HEMHealing® is based on the capacity of M101 to fix oxygen from the ambient air according to a first pressure gradient between the air and HEMHealing®, then to release it passively according to a second pressure gradient between HEMHealing® and the wound. The performances of HEMHealing® therefore consist of oxygen exchanges based on physical principles governed by the physical laws of Henry and Fick.
